Political relations

Belarus and Mongolia have similar positions on key issues on the international agenda, they oppose the creation of a unipolar world and support the interests of medium and small states.

Mongolia became one of the first countries to recognize the state sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus in December 1991. Diplomatic relations between the countries were established on January 24, 1992.

There are embassies in the two countries. The Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Mongolia was opened on June 30, 2014. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Mongolia D. Harelik appointed in June 2021, presented his credentials to the President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh on November 8, 2021.

On October 11, 2019, the State Great Khural (parliament) of Mongolia adopted a resolution on the opening of the Embassy of Mongolia in Minsk. On May 21, 2020, the embassy began its activities. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to the Republic of Belarus B.Bayarsaikhan started work on September 21, 2021.

The President of the Republic of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko met with the President of Mongolia Ts. Elbegdorj within the framework of the SCO and BRICS summits in July 2015 in Ufa (Russia) and with the President of Mongolia Kh. Battulga within the framework of the SCO summit in June 2018 in Qingdao (China), in 2023, within the framework of the COP-28 conference in Dubai (UAE),  A.G. Lukashenko met with the President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh.

The Prime Ministers of the Republic of Belarus visited Mongolia twice: V.F. Kebich in 1992 and M.V. Myasnikovich in 2013. There were no visits of the heads of the Mongolian government to Belarus. In 2016, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Semashko V.I. paid a working visit to Mongolia. In 2017, within the framework of the meeting of the SCO CGP in Sochi, the Prime Minister of Belarus A.V. Kobyakov met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia U. Enkhtuvshin.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia visited Belarus twice: L. Erdenechuluun in 2001 and D. Tsogtbaatar in 2018. The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus VL Senko to Mongolia took place in 1996. In March 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus S.F. Aleinik paid an official visit to Mongolia.

The following Mongolian delegations visited Belarus: 2013 — Minister of Industry and Agriculture of Mongolia H. Battulga, 2014 — Minister of Roads and Transport of Mongolia A. Gansukh, 2016 — Minister of Construction and Urban Development of Mongolia Z. Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia P.Sergelen, 2020 — Minister of Roads and Transport of Mongolia B.Enkh-Amgalan, 2023 – Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia H.Bolorchuluun.

There were two visits of the Ministers of Industry of Belarus to Mongolia: V.M. Vovk in 2018 and P.V. Utyupin in 2019.

Five rounds of Belarusian-Mongolian inter-MFA consultations were held (the last in September 2022 in Ulaanbaatar).

The National Assembly of Belarus has established a working group for cooperation with the Parliament of Mongolia. Under the State Great Khural of Mongolia, a Mongolian-Belarusian parliamentary group was created.

From June 1 to 4, 2024, the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko paid the state visit to Mongolia. The Belarusian delegation included members of the Government, heads of enterprises, organizations and business circles. During the visit, bilateral meetings with Mongolian colleagues, as well as the Mongolia-Belarus Business Forum, were held
