Political relations

Belarus and Mongolia have similar positions on the key issues of the international agenda, come out against unipolar world and appeal to observance of the interests of medium and small countries.

Mongolia was one of the first countries to recognize the state sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Belarus (in December 1991).

The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and Mongolia were established on January 24, 1992.

The Belarusian Ambassadors to China were accredited to Mongolia in 1998 – 2000 (Mr. V.Kuznetsov) and in 2011 – 2013 (Mr. V.Burya).

The Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Mongolia started to operate on June 30, 2014. H.E. Mr. Stanislav Chepurnoy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Mongolia submitted the credentials to the President of Mongolia H.E. Mr. Ts. Elbegdorj on August 06, 2014.

Traditionally the Ambassadors of Mongolia to the Russian Federation were part-time accredited to the Republic of Belarus: 1990–1994 – Mr. N.Mishigdorj, 1994–1996 – Mr. N.Bavoo, 1996–2000 – Mr. Ts.Tsolmon, 2001–2005 – Mr. S.Bayar, 2005–2009 – Mr. L.Khangai, 2009–2014 – Mr. D.Idevkhten, 2014–2015 – Mr. Sh.Altangerel, 2016–2019 – Mrs. B.Delgermaa.

On October 11, 2019 the Great State Khural of Mongolia has adopted a resolution on the opening of the Mongolian Embassy in Belarus. On May 21, 2020, the embassy started its work.

The President of the Republic of Belarus H.E. Mr. A.Lukashenko met with the President of Mongolia H.E. Mr. Ts.Elbegdorj on the fields of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS summits in July 2015 in Ufa (Russia) and with the President of Mongolia H.E. Mr. H.Battulga during the SCO summit in June 2018 in Qingdao (China). The President of Belarus met with the Prime Minister of Mongolia Mr. J.Erdenebat on the fields of the “One Belt, One Way” Forum in May 2017 in Beijing.

Prime-Ministers of the Republic of Belarus visited Mongolia twice: Mr. V.Kebich in 1992 and Mr. M.Myasnikovich in 2013. The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Mr. V.Semashko visited Mongolia in 2016.

In 2017, in the framework of the SCO Council of Heads of Governments in Sochi (Russia), the Prime Minister of Belarus Mr. A.Kobyakov met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Mr. U.Enkhtuvshin.

Foreign Ministers of Mongolia visited Belarus twice: Mr. L.Erdenechuluun in 2001 and Mr. D.Tsogtbaatar in 2008. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Mr. V.Senko visited Mongolia in 1996.

The current President of Mongolia H.E. Mr. H.Battulga visited Belarus in 2013 as the Minister of Industry and Agriculture of Mongolia. In 2014 the Minister of Roads and Transport of Mongolia visited Belarus.

Ministers of Roads and Transport of Mongolia visited Belarus twice: Mr. A.Gansukh in 2014 and Mr. B.Enkh-Amgalan in January 2020. The Minister of Construction and Urban Development of Mongolia Mrs. Z.Bayan-Selenge visited Belarus in 2016. The Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia Mr. P.Sergelen visited Belarus in 2017.

Two Ministers of Industry of Belarus visited Mongolia: Mr. V.Vovk in March 2018 and Mr. P.Utyupin in June 2019.

Four rounds of Belarus-Mongolia consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia took place (September 2012, Ulaanbaatar; May 2013, Minsk; April 2015, Ulaanbaatar; September 2019, Minsk).

The National Assembly of Belarus has established a working group on cooperation with the Parliament of Mongolia. The Mongolian-Belarusian parliamentary group was established by the Great State Hural of Mongolia, head of the group is Mr. B.Enkh-Amgalan. The contacts between the parliaments of two countries carried out in the framework of the Silk Road Support Group of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
