Cooperation in the scientific and humanitarian spheres

Scientific and technological cooperation. It’s regulated by:

Agreement between the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Education and Science of Mongolia on cooperation in the field of science and technology, signed on September 5, 2013 (entered into force on September 5, 2013);

Agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia, signed on May 24, 2017 (entered into force May 24, 2017).

The Joint Belarusian-Mongolian Commission for Cooperation in Science and Technology was established in May 2015. Its first session was held in January 2016 in Ulaanbaatar. The priority spheres of cooperation were identified: materials science and nanomaterials; laser and optoelectronic technologies; medicine, pharmacology and biotechnology; unmanned aircraft systems, aerospace technologies.

On May 22-26, 2017 was organized the first visit of the President of the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia Mr. D.Regdal to Belarus. Negotiations were held with the chairman of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on promising areas of cooperation in the field of science and technology. Mr. D.Regdal visited several scientific organizations in Belarus.

On August 5-6, 2019 in Minsk was held the II session of the Joint Commission. It was announced the next competition of joint scientific and technical projects for 2020-2021 in priority areas of cooperation.

Five national universities of Belarus took part in the National Exposition of Belarus in the framework of the international exhibition “Ulaanbaatar Partnership” (September 12-15, 2019). Negotiations were held on joint research activities. The Belarusian State Technological University (BSTU) signed cooperation agreements with the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, the State Agricultural University, the Academy of Mining Sciences and the Ulaanbaatar Technological Institute. The Grodno State University signed a protocol of intent with the Ulaanbaatar Technological Institute. The Brest State Technical University and BSTU signed with the Mongolian University of Science and Technology a joint agreement on cooperation in the scientific sphere.

Education. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of Mongolia on cooperation in the field of education was signed on September 4, 2013 (entered into force on July 8, 2014).

The agreement provides the opportunity for up to three people to study annually at the universities of the parties on agreed terms. In the 2015/2016 academic year Belarus accepted two Mongolian students to study on a free basis. In 2016 another 3 students were accepted for study. In 2018 student admission under this scheme was suspended, as Belarusian students did not apply for study at Mongolian universities.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 232 from June 12, 2018 “On grants for study” five citizens of Mongolia were admitted in 2019 for study to the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy and the Grodno State Agricultural University. In 2020 there were also five citizens (study at the Belarusian State Medical University and the Belarusian National Technical University). In 2021 the quota for training under the grant system for Mongolian citizens has been increased to 15 places.

In 2020 in the framework of cooperation between the sum Dalanzadgad (South Govi Province) and Zhodino (Belarus) 8 citizens of Mongolia studied at the Zhodino State Polytechnic College.

Culture. Agreement between the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports of Mongolia on cooperation in the field of culture was signed on February 6, 2017 (entered into force on February 6, 2017).

The first Belarusian Film Week in Ulaanbaatar was organized from June 25 to July 3, 2019, as part of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and Independence Day of Belarus. The program of the Film Week was composed of films dedicated to the Great Patriotic War events that took place in Belarus. This week was held the thematic photo exhibition “Belarus Partisanskaya”.

In 2020, as part of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, on May 7 and 9 the central TV channel MNB organized a screening of the feature film “Brest Fortress” (dubbed into Mongolian).

To develop cooperation in the field of book publishing and popularization of the works of Belarusian writers in Mongolia, with the direct participation of the Embassy, the sonnets collection of Belarusian classic Mr. Yanka Kupala was first published in Mongolian. The translation was made by Mr. B.Galaarid, Honored Worker of Culture of Mongolia.

In 2019, several commemorative events were held to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the battles at Khalkhin Gol and the 110th anniversary of the birth of an internationalist pilot, the first twice Hero of the Soviet Union, the Belarusian S.Gritsevets, who distinguished himself in the battles at Khalkhin Gol.

The bust of S.Gritsevets was created in the workshop of the Mongolian sculptor Mr. L.Gantumur under the support of the municipality of Choibalsan city and with the direct participation of the Mayor of this city Mr. P.Munchur. On September 9, 2019, the opening ceremony of the monument in Choibalsan was held with the participation of Mr. S.Arkhangelsky, the hero’s grandson, president of the Russian Foundation “Pobeditel” named after S.Gritsevets.

The book of Belarusian journalist A.Scherbakov “Trust the sky to Winged People!” about S.Gritsevets was published in Russian and Mongolian languages. The translation was made by Mr. B.Galaarid, Honored Worker of Culture of Mongolia. The newspaper “News of Mongolia” has published several articles on the life and achievements of the famous Belarusian. The Mongolian online media has published interviews with the Ambassador and Mr. S.Arkhangelsky.

To intensify cooperation in the field of librarianship on October 23, 2019, the collection of sonnets by Yanka Kupala and the book “Trust the Sky to Winged People!” were granted to the National Library of Mongolia and representatives of more than 40 libraries of Ulaanbaatar (more than 200 books). The Facsimile edition of the first “ABC book” from the National Library of Belarus was transmitted to the director of the National Library of Mongolia.

Cooperation in sports is developing. Since 2018, Mongolian athletes have been regularly participating in the annual International Sambo Competition for the prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus. They have won some gold and silver medals. In July 2019, Belarusian athletes took part and won prizes on the stage of the World Sambo Championship held in Mongolia. In February 2020 the delegation of the Mongolian Sambo Federation (members of the federation, coaches and athletes) visited Belarus. During the tournament, Mongolian athletes took a number of prizes.
